Ramillie Acevedo Reyes

Ramillie Acevedo Reyes is a senior Biology student at Universidad Ana G. Méndez, Carolina Campus, Puerto Rico. She is currently a member of Dr. Loyda B. Méndez's research  team, where she studies the effects of diesel exhaust particles on juvenile mice. Her research  focuses on investigating the effects of diesel exhaust particles in juvenile mice, including  their impact on immune and neurological responses. Through these research experiences, she  developed a strong interest in toxicology, environmental health, and understanding how environmental exposures can influence both human and animal health through a One Health  perspective. In addition to her research activities, Ramillie serves as President of the  Microbiology Chapter and Secretary of the Pre-Veterinary Club. She is also a member of the  Honors Program, the American Medical Student Association (AMSA), MEDLIFE, the  Society of Toxicology (SOT), and the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry  (SETAC). Throughout her undergraduate career, she has balanced academics, research,  employment, and extracurricular involvement while remaining committed to her professional  development. Ramillie has presented her research at scientific conferences including ABRCMS, the Society of Toxicology Annual Meeting, PRISM, and PR-INBRE events. She  also completed a summer research internship at Marshall University, where she investigated  the anticancer effects of capsaicin analogs in ovarian cancer cell lines. Through the MSDTOne  Health Program, she hopes to deepen her knowledge of toxicology from a One Health perspective, strengthen her professional network, and gain valuable educational and  professional experiences. Her long-term goal is to pursue a combined DVM/PhD degree and  contribute to advancing both animal and public health through research and scientific discovery.
