Jalyn Lawrence is a junior at Claflin University in Orangeburg, South Carolina, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. She is actively engaged in campus leadership, serving as president of the university’s Science Club. She is also a member of her school’s Audubon Chapter, as well as secretary of Claflin University’s chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. To apply her academic training in real-world settings, Jalyn has completed internships with the FDA’s Center for Veterinary Medicine and the Department of Energy in Savannah, Georgia through Pre-College University. She is currently developing her senior thesis on wastewater treatment techniques under the guidance of Dr. Kenneth Sajwan and Dr. Kamal Chowdhury. Through MSDT One-Health, Jalyn hopes to deepen her understanding of the role the environment plays in human health from a toxicology perspective while building meaningful professional connections to support her future career.
