Dr. Danielle Meyer is a research assistant professor in the Department of Environmental and Global Health at the University of Florida. Her long-term research goal is to understand how complex environmental exposures alter the trajectory of human development, leading to adult and multigenerational disease outcomes. Upon joining Dr. Tracie Baker’s zebrafish toxicology (WATER) lab in 2016, she discovered - and was captivated by - aquatic toxicology and the concept of developmental origins of health and disease (DOHaD). She obtained a Ph.D in Pharmacology from Wayne State University in 2021, exploring the lifespan and legacy health effects of exposure to a range of environmental endocrine-disrupting toxicants, including TCDD (dioxin), lead, and nanoplastics, across translational windows including embryonic and gonadal development. From this work, she was awarded an NIH NIEHS predoctoral F31 fellowship. She transitioned to a postdoctoral position at the University of Florida in 2021 and was promoted to her current role as faculty in 2025. She has been first author on six publications and a book chapter on multigenerational toxicology in fish species, and co-author on seventeen more, and has developed expertise across a range of developmental and reproductive zebrafish toxicology assays and subsequent transcriptomic and epigenomic molecular analysis and interpretation. She is an instructor for Medical Pharmacology (Fall 2025, Summer 2026) and Environmental Toxicology: Applications in Public Health (Fall 2026) for the College of Public Health and Health Professions at UF, and has mentored 9 undergraduate students (3+ academic semesters each) and 5 graduate students under the WATER lab. Outside of the lab, she enjoys reading, singing, theater, spending time with family, and planning trips to explore new places.
