Yasiri Suárez-Jiménez is in her Senior year at the University of Puerto Rico, Arecibo Campus, majoring in Industrial Microbiology with a minor in Biomedical Sciences. She works on campus as an assistant at the Integrated Science Multiple Laboratory (ISMUL), supporting educational initiatives for students and teachers. She is actively involved in organizations such as Neuroboricuas as a public relations representative and Manada Solidaria, a Red Cross chapter, as secretary. She has also gained research experience under the mentorship of Prof. Maiella Ramos-Fontan, where they detected and characterized microplastics in crab tissues, sediment, and water samples from the Caño Tiburones in Puerto Rico. Through MSDT OneHealth, she hopes to expand her knowledge in toxicology and One Health while continuing to grow in the field of human and public health.
