Position Title
2026-2027
Dr. Alfonso A. Aranda is an Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies at Sacramento State and a dedicated scholar-activist focused on environmental justice and community engagement. He holds a Ph.D. in Geography from the University of California, Davis, with an emphasis on environmental health hazards within agriculturally-structured and farmworker communities. Upon joining Sacramento State in 2024, Dr. Aranda re-established and expanded the Knights Landing Environmental Health Project (KLEHP) to advance pesticide monitoring and translate research findings into tangible community well-being.
As part of the MSDT-One Health program, Dr. Aranda champions a transdisciplinary approach to environmental health toxicology. His model recognizes that addressing localized pollution requires intersecting laboratory-based analytical techniques with a collaborative research team composed of social scientists trained in community-based participatory research (CBPR), undergraduate and graduate student mentees, and the local communities who possess vital experiential knowledge of environmental exposures.
